We made this trip to Krabi (Thailand) in September 2015.
The other option was Phuket as it is more popular among tourists , but on Googling learned that Krabi can be a better choice if you are running away from crowds as it isn't as commercialised as Phuket.So naturally we selected Krabi !
We booked hotel 'ibis styles krabi Ao Nang' for accommodation which is only a 10 minutes walk from AoNang beach. Even though the hotel provides complimentary tuktuk rides to AoNang beach at regular intervals , the 10 minutes walk to beach is worth as you pass by along multi-cuisine restaurants and shops/boutiques selling arts and handicrafts.

Krabi offers easy access to PhiPhi islands which were supposed to be the major attraction for this trip.Its an hour long boat ride to PhiPhi islands , and in a full day multiple options to see and do such as Maya bay , Pileh bay , snorkeling etc can be covered.Buffet lunch is provided by tour operator.

Elephant Trekking is a must do in Krabi , but mind you it is literally trekking and don't mistake it for an elephant ride !

We all loved the hotel 'ibis styles krabi Ao Nang' as it is family friendly , offers beautiful view of a cliff from its rooms.......................

I would recommend this hotel and Krabi for families travelling with kids!!
